Varga Marianna: A boldogi és turai hímzések azonossága és különbsége a XX. század fordulóján
Marianna Varga The Similarities and Differences in Boldog and Iura Embroidery at the Turn of the 20th Century There are a considerable number of similarities to be found in the lifestyles, customs and costumes of the peasantry of Boldog and Tura. In our study we attempt to show those characteristics common to the folk artist, and the embroiderer in particular, while addressing issues relating to the "personality" and "impersonality" of the individual practioner.. Boldog and Tura embroidery demonstrate the variety present in Palóc embroidery. In the present study we concentrate on the older style white embroidery from the first decade of the 20th century of the kind sown onto predrawn industrially manufactured linen. We also make special reference to how the wearing of white embroidered head and neck scarves survived in Boldog and Tura until the end of the 1960s as part of their colourful local costumes and embroideries, and how it has found its way into the stage costumes worn by contemporary folk groups. 138
