Ács Csilla–Vaday Andrea: Mezőszemere, Kismari-fenék. Késő-császárkori – kora-népvándorláskori temetőrészlet. II.

Csilla Acs-Andrea Vaday Mezôszemere, Kismari-fenék, Late-Imperial - Early Migration Cemetery Fragment II. The excavation site is situated to the south of the central and most recent set of ramparts, right up against the rampart itself and keeping to its main contours. In this article the authors publish the recently excavated IV. burial group as a supplement to the already published Mezőszemere I-III burial group. Roman objects were found in all the burial groups of a type suggesting close Roman ties. The arms assessories point to a growth in the role of the armed forces. In Mezőszemere a fragment of a Sarmatian military cemetery came to light containing the remains of the Sarmatians allied with Romans who were manning the ramparts. This was something made absolutely clear by the dating of the excavated material. The wear evident on the Roman coins found in the graves suggest that they had been in circulation for a long time, which also pointed to this section of the ramparts, which were constructed after AD 358, being patrolled by Sarmatian troops during the course of the 370s and 380s. 136
