district and this had the result that a considerable quantity of pottery and textiles were added to the collection. Farming implements were collected at Gyöngyöspata by Mr. Kecskés. Ethnographical themes were collected by all researchers of the County Organization. This collecting work was partially within the scope of the aforesaid complex research projects, and was partially serving the realization of other scientific plans. Mr. Bakó was engaged in complementary and control collecting work for Volume II of The Monuments Topography for County Heves, and collected facts for the theme "Peasant Lime-burning in Hungary" in the mountains of Bakony, Gerecse and Bükk regions. Mr. Kecskés did field work of several days for obtaining data for the themes "Women's Dresses at Gyöngyöspata" and "Viticulture and Social Stratification at Visonta". Miss Kapros was mainly busy in collecting data on particular habits of everyday life. For attending to the collection of the applied arts the County Organization has no specialized research workers in its staff, so this could only be solved with the co-operation of the experts (Mrs. Miklós Héj and Mrs. Maria Z. Sternegg) of the Museum of Applied Arts. Most of the 171 pieces collected in this way are glassware and furniture. Special mention must be made of the furniture and the vessels of the one-time pharmacy of the Jesuits of Eger: these were obtained by the Museum from the Pharmacy Centre of County Heves. Large-scale organizational work for establishing a centre of ecclesiastical art at Eger was started by the Diocesan Authority of Eger in 1968. Collection of pieces of art history and the applied arts was started by the Archbishopric with the co-operation of the research workers of the Museum of Eger. Enrichment of the collection of fine arts was also carried out with the help of outside researchers : expert opinion on the purchase of Hungarian paintings was given by Mrs. Éva Bodnár, on paintings purchased abroad by Mrs. Ágnes Czobor Katona. The 7 new acquisitions of the year are all Hungarian paintings, including 4 by Alajos Sajóssy whose paintings decorated the walls and altars of several churches in County Heves. Collecting work of local history went on in both museums; the result of this work s manifest mainly in written material, the number of objects is much lower. In Eger Mr. Kovács collected documentary data relating to the medieval settlement history of the County and to the correlations between the patrocinia of Northern Hungary and the history of the settlements. Mr. Dancza collected data and documents connected with the celebration of major political anniversaries of recent history. Work of the same type was carried out at Gyöngyös by Mr. József Molnár, also with good results. Research of literary history was carried out only in the Museum of Eger, by Dr. János Korompay. Most of this work consisted in studying and arranging the original posthumous papers of Gárdonyi, and of the manuscripts that were obtained by the Museum when Sándor Gárdonyi died in 1965. The core of this collections was enriched in 1968 by further Gárdonyi relics such as letters, copies of letters, memoirs, press publications. In addition to this work the Museum was engaged in important activities by supplying information or sending material to Gárdonyi scholars living in various parts of this country, or to those who were working for deciphering Gárdonyi's cryptography. During 1968 the research workers of the County Organization have carried out scientific analytical works as follows : Mr. Ferenc Bakó: "Lime-kilns in the Bükk Mountains", Néprajzi Értesítő (Ethnographic Bulletin) pp. 67-91. "Habits of Life of Lime-burners", in printing. Yearbook of the Museum of Eger, vol. VI. Questionary for data on Pâlots Settlements and popular architecture, manuscript, 1 sheet. "Settlement and Popular Architecture", introductory chapter, and material relating to various settlements, in vol. I. of The Monuments Topography of County Heves, in printig, 9 sheets. "Eger", a tourists' guide, published by Panorama, 3 and half sheets. 14
