The dispersion of the collection 1. Inventorized snail shells and shells (freshwater, marine and terrestrial): 13 200 items. 2. material prepared for invetory (identified) cca. 5000 items. 3. unelaborated material cca. 1000 items. 4. cenological material (from the Mátra and the Bükk Mts) cca. 2500 items. 5. alcocholic material (partly elaborated) cca 3000 items. 6. fossil (Pleistocene) material cca. 800 items. System of inventory The elaborated material is inventorized in the special in­ventory number contains three groups of numbers separated piece inventory is described in ,,A Múzeumokra vonatkozó jogszabályok és szabályzatok kézikönyve" (Manual of Laws and Regulations conserning Museums; ed. I. Kovács 1971.). The in­ventory number contains theree groups of numbers separated by full stops (e. g. 83. 1. 1.). Their interpretation: the first group of numbers is given by the two last digits of the year, year. The second group indicates the group of material inveto­rized in one time (e. g. the total material of a purchase or a collection), while the third group of numbers reveal the real number of items. The snaill and shell material is inventorized according to this system. Two parallel collections of them ha­ve been formed: 1. Hungarian material (species were determined according to L. Pintér (1974): Katalog der rezenten Mollusken Ungarns). 2. World material (its setting up could only partly be carried out for lack of chest). Chest registery system was formed at the following collec­tions: material preserved in alcochol. cenological collection. The alcocholic material of the museum, except for some groups, is unelaborated. In this case we are aiming at the col­lection and preservation of various, rich material of the largest
