Márton Levente Lovas-Szilveszter Mező Frigyes Déri natural history collection

Frigyes Déri's donation to Debrecen formed the basis of the Déri Museum's rich collections. This unprecedented donation has a relatively small, hardly promoted yet very interesting segment that includes interesting items of natural history with a number of rarities just as the other collections do. In the first part of the study the authors highlight the development of Frigyes Déri's collection of natural history, the circumstances of its road to the museum, and then that from the first known exhibiton up until now. The second part analyses the collection's structure and major characteristics. The collection is originally comprised of minerals, rocks, fossils and hunting trophies. Its professionally most valuable segment, however, is the paleontological collection that includes fossils of primarily animal origin, i.e. fossilised remnants of monoplasts, corals, brachiopods, snails, shells, cephalopods, echinodermata, crayfish, fish and mammals.
