Pápai Emese: A győri Nemzetközi Művészetelepről, 35 éves jubileumi kiállítása kapcsán

Following the themes of the exhibited works, the divergent artistic attitudes were striking. Besides the artists working according to a plan determined beforehand, in the same style and themes even in in the new milieu, there are many remarkable ones who „improvise”, reacting sensitively to the new milieu, inspired by local circumstances. Just some names from the recent past: Pavel Makov, Shogo Muto, Jan Méfiöka, Riita Rönkkö, Susan Leask. Since the ’90s the main venue of the artists’ symposium lasting at one time for four, nowadays for three weeks has been the Győr Graphic Workshop, where there have been possibilities to make mainly intaglio and planographic as well as combined original prints. From this period international relations and level have constituted the strong point of the artists’ symposium. The number of the foreign and Hungarian, mostly graphic artists working at the symposium every summer, utilizing the capacity of the Graphic workshop totals 10-12. Among the participants there are artists from Győr and regular Hungarian guests like Dezső Váli, El Kazovszkij, Tibor Budahelyi, István Ézsiás, László Hefter, Katalin Hetey, Tibor Csiky, István Nádler, János Fajó, Tamás Gaál, Tamás Trombitás, István ef Zámbó, Ildikó Várnagy or Ágnes Péter. The list of the symposium’s international participants is also notable, including Frits Vanen, Beatrix Eitel, Claude Sinte, Constantin Jaxy, Robert Jancovic, Farouk Shehata, Gabriella Fekete, Pavel Makov, Ilona Suonio, Jaakko Rönkö, Jana Sindelova, Hildegard Bauschlicher, Jan Mériíka, Toshimi Kitano and others. In the last years the artists’ symposium of marked graphic character has opened up towards other media again. It has regularly hosted painters but there were also sculptors, installation artists and photographers among the guests of last year’s symposium. The works donated by the creators enrich the museum’s collection of artists’ symposia, and should the occasion arise, they will „appear as guests” on other venues as well. 8
