The Lutheran Church of Sopron during the Hungarian Soviet Republic The Directorate of Sopron, composed of five members, was set up on 22nd of March 1919 and it immediately started to shape the foundations of the new regime. The movable and immovable property of the Church wer confiscated immediately after the formation of the Soviet Republic, but the depositary assets were not taken away. Due to a ban of assembling it was difficult to run the matters of the Lutheran Church, consequently, a carefully selected body managed the affairs. The new political system tried to inhibit the religious education at schools, so the pastors of Sopron held more services for the youth. After the collapse of the Soviet Republic the pastors could register that the assets of the Sopron Lutheran Church suffered no considerable damages. András Krisch
