ARRABONA 2011.49/2. TANULMÁNYOK buckle and a small stud and some insignificant iron objects (knife, clasp) behind. The sacrificial animal - a flayed sheep - was placed onto the bench separated from the dead. The bow of the man, which was placed to his right side in loose position, escaped the robbers. The stiffening plates of the bow were made of horn, which are hardly worn suggesting that the bow was new or hardly used. The arrows with three-edged, thorny heads were found on the left side of the torso near the sidewall of the grave. Their position suggests that they were placed into a quiver. Under the knees both cattle and sheep rump bones were found. Grave Nr. 31 is a grave of a child who was buried similarly to the adults. The sacrificial animal here is also a flayed sheep and next to it there was a small handshaped mug for the food grave goods. Cattle rump bones were placed under the knee. An iron buckle fastened the belt on the waist. The iron knife found on the right side of the child might have had preventive purpose. Its rust preserved the imprint of its wooden sheath. The community, where the graves belonged to, can be connected to the early pastoral Avar groups. Based on the evidence of the grave goods and object of attire the graves of this small pastoral community can be dated to the beginning of the 7th century. Andrea Nagy 32
