ARRABONA 2010. 48 / 2. TANULMÁNYOK ANCIENT GEMS FROM THE AVAR AGE In the Carpathian Basin the Avar Age lasted from 567 to 822 and 16 ancient gems survived from this period. One is set in a golden ring, one in a silver ring, one in a silver pendant, three in a bronze ring, one in a bronze pendant, one is unset and the other were strung on necklaces. This made it possible that half of the finds were so called two-channelled glass cameo. With one exception they were found in the area of Pannonia, so they can be considered reused pieces coming from there. Several signs suggest that the Avars were uninterested in the representations, they focused on the material with one exception, where the similarity of the representations of the ancient gem and the medieval fibula coming from the same grave is so striking that it can not be accidental.
