ARRABONA 2010. 48 / 2. TANULMÁNYOK THE COUNT AND THE BLOOD JUDGE A report of Countess Cziráky Józsefné Andrássy Ilona and Count Cziráky József on the criminal process against the Count before the martial law court of Szamuely Tibor (9-10 June 1919) The presently published source is a valuable piece of the documentary bequest of Countess Cziráky Józsefné Andrássy Ilona, which is kept in the Xántus János Museum. The two documents contain reports on the martial court action against Count Cziráky József before the dreaded blood judge of the first Hungarian proletarian dictatorship: Szamuely Tibor on 9-10 June 1919. The importance of the memoires lays in the fact that they provide firsthand information on the conditions in Csorna town in the afternoon of the local massacre, the methods of the “Lenin-boys” and the “jurisdiction” of the proletarian dictatorship as well as on the character of Szamuely Tibor and other, less-known actors of the contemporary events in Sopron County and last but not least on the brave stance of the count and his wife.
