Solymos Ede: Adatok a Mosoni Felső Halászati Társulat történetéhez
Facts relating to the history of the Fishing Association which covers the upper reaches of the Moson branch of the Danube The Fishing Act No. XDÍ/1888 provides, among other things, for the establishment of Fishing Associations in order to combine the several parcels into vaster areas, thereby making fishing both more effective and economic. Due to a clash of interests the nationwide establishment of such associations has taken 30 years. A knowledge of their history and function reveals information on the transformation of the fisherman's way of life. The Fishing Association of Moson was founded in 1897, covering the upper reaches of the Moson branch of the Danube, but due to a lack of proper organisation, there could not obviously be a development of the larger holding system as it was on the lower reaches of the river. Some non-fishing entrepreneurs did appear amongst holders. We have found some data indicating the early organisation of fishing as a sport. Considering the rents, and the renting system itself, fishing in this area may not have been a fruitful labour. Ede Sólymos 316
