Kücsán József: A Sopron, Gazda utca 23. számú lakóház építészeti vizsgálata

An architectural study of the dwelling-house located at No. 23 Gazda Str., Sopron The paper describes the uncovering of the dwelling-house related to in the title and built in 1637. The building was erected in the northeastern suburb of Sopron where most of the population were engaged in agricultural production. Due to this fact, the buildings, their layout, appearance and use are country-like, simple and rural. The experiences gained from the study of suburban houses will probably be employed profitably in the examination of rural architecture. During the history of the building between 1637 and 1987, four phases of building and re-building can be determined. The present paper deals with the alterations that turned the originally open-stack house (with the soot door inside) into a closed-stack one (with the soot door outside) by the beginning of the 20th century.
