with the late Tagar period (4th century B.C.). Theoretically the series should have ended with the period of the Magyar conquest in the 10th century but since it is known that not all the Magyars left their earlier camping grounds the study included a few series from Southern Russian areas dated to the 10th —12th centuries and from the Volga —Kama area dated to the 10th —15th centuries. When compiling the 6th —12th century parallels for Hungary I tried to be complete and include all the published finds in the examination. Only those series were omitted which did not include at least four individuals within the given sex or whenever the authors did not publish any of the measurements I employed. In addition, I omitted from the 6th —9th century material a few, mostly Mongoloid series because the population of Sárbogárd was Europoid. From the area of the Soviet Union the series selected could not be complete and only the publications releasing the appropriate measurements could serve as bases for selecting the series. The data of males were compared to 72, while the females to 51 of the selected series. (The difference in a few instances is due to the fact that the small number or a lack of cases did not allow the comparison of female measurements. 85 ) The distance of these series from Sárbogárd was measur8 5 I compared the measurements of Sárbogárd with the following series : a) The series of the Central Danube Basin from the VI —IX. centuries: Adorján (L.
