A Móra Ferenc Múzeum Évkönyve: Studia Naturalia 3. (Szeged, 2003)

Summary

There was a lot to do, even more than possible. The first step was the identification and systématisation of the existing obejcts. This hard task was carried out by Czógler thru severe and precise educational methods. Then he prepared an invetory of the entire material of natural sciences of the Local Museum of Szeged. The preparatums and minerals, fossils were collected in two different volumes. According to some verbal information there was even a diary of herbs but this got lost. He not only registered the objects which are today individually stockable but stuffs with their essential background information as well. After the death of Ferenc Móra some changes in the personnel of the museum were executed, such as the leaving of Kálmán Czógler which seriously effected the upcoming years. Because of the lack of a stabil manager and owner a rather miserable period has started which practically lasted until 1951. The operators of the natural history division often changed without proving any everlasting values. The only event to be worth mentioning was the deposit of a bird collection (White Lake area) of dr Péter Beretzk - physician of the Hungarian Railroad Co. in 1936. During the management of Dezső Csallány a correct cooperation was built up between the scientist and our institution though this relation had been rather smoothless. In 1947 the local papers showed up some quite strange articles. Even some news was spread about the relocation of the whole Beretzk bird collection to Budapest due to stock problems. Fortunately this has not been the case. After the debates in 1951 Péter Beretzk donated his whole preparátum as a persistant deposit to the museum. The reorganisation forced a further increase in the personnel. Győző Csongor, teacher at a secondary school, had in 1951 first a part-time job at our institution and from 20, Febr 1952 he was employed as a full-time worker. In the same year involving some local experts and co-workers from Budapest the biggest permanent exhibition of the region has been established entitled Life of the White Lake. Originally the opening ceremony was scheduled for the 7, Nov however the work could be completed by 7, Dec only. The delay did not effect any serious outcome, likely owing to the great public success. During a couple of weeks after the opening each peak of attendance was surpassed. From 1957 dr Miklós Marián herpetologist took the management of the animal stock. Shortly we got a preparator too named Péter Készei. Our colleagues of natural sciences were involved to the complex, ecological research of the Tisza valley from 1957. The first period of the Tisza research was rather enthusiastic and
