A Móra Ferenc Múzeum Évkönyve: Studia Archaeologica 1. (Szeged, 1995)

Ottó TROGMAYER r rom 1956 the number of the annuals of the Hungarian museums has been growing very quickly, among them the Annual of the Móra Ferenc Museum of Szeged (a szegedi Móra Ferenc Múzeum Evkönyve), that published museum works on the archaeology, ethnography, history and biology of the central part of the Carpathian basin, a region important from Middle European point of view also. At that time the title of these annuals was given by a decentrum, a museum with great traditions. These annuals with mixed contents had regional significance and this is still the case. So, we have been publishing articles on museum research of Csongrád county, but we have to connect with it old traditions of the Department of Archaeology of the University of Szeged, because in the last decades education was conducted in the museum (earlier it was different). After almost 40 years we had to face the fact that the frames of the scientific proceedings became too tight for a modem museum. I mean frames of the size, contents, techniques and saleability, for we have to say that one of the aims of our annual is taking part in the international system of change, with the aid of which we try to enrich our library and information basis. So, we decided to divide our annual into five sections. This volume is devoted to archaeology. Our plan is — according to our economic possibilities —to publish our periodicals not annually, but on each occasion when a certain amount of new results of a certain field come to light. Our research work is dealing with a very wide period from the Paleolithic times up to the new era. The material heritage of these ages is a very important source for the history our country and a much wider region. We offer our articles to our colleagues working on the theory or practice of archaeology. Ottó TROGMAYER
