h century, Zoltán Thury (1870-1906) and with his relation to Szeged. In 1891-92 Thury was a journalist in Szeged and took part actively in the literary, art and political life of the town. Second part of the study deals with the performance of his controversial drama entitled Katonák (Soldiers), which was performed in 1899 in Szeged. Third part of present study analyses Thury's attempt to return to the town. In 1901 he ran for the directorship of the town theatre. The study provides details on the history of media and theatre as well as on that of local politics. 112
