PUSZTAI Bertalan: A szegedi görög katolikus egyházközség kialakulása. Egy vallási szórvány helykeresése a társadalmi térben
BERTALAN PUSZTAI SEARCHING FOR POSITION IN THE SOCIAL SPACE THE FORMATION OF THE GREEK CATHOLIC PARISH OF SZEGED In this paper the author deals with the Greek Catholic community of the city of Szeged. The administrative, economic and educational center of the southern Great Plain does not have a Byzantine Rite Roman Catholic parish with long lasting history. The faithfuls of this Church moved here from the northeastern and eastern edges of the Great Plain in the beginning of the 20th century. The first attempt to form a Greek Catholic outparish in Szeged was before the World War I. Traditionally the city is predominantly Roman Catholic, but has an ethnically different (Serbian, Romanian) Orthodox community as well. According to the author the appearance of a Hungarian Greek Catholic community has had an effect on the social life of the city. In this context the main elements of Hungarian Greek Catholic identity can be pointed out through the analyses of self-expression in the new fields of publicity, first of all the press. The paper focuses on the two decades of Greek Catholic selfidentification in Szeged from the formation of the outparish (1921) until the establishment of an independent Greek Catholic parish (1937).
