This dissertation is intended to illuminate the world of István Baka'

s poetry, with the help of the analysis of two works: 'Bolero with Death' and 'Mephisto Waltz'. Primarily, we provide an interpretation of the historic form, also characterising the Hungarian and European traditions which István Baka enters into with these works, the composers (for example Ravel and Liszt), the poets and writers (Baudelaire, Weöres and Bulgakov) who had an effect on him, and those who 'created' the inter-textuality of his poems. 115
