Loess steppes, grasslands Except for some tiny remnant patches, the original loess steppe grassland vegetation of the Great Hungarian Plain disappeared almost completely. In the Southern Trans-Tisza Region, on the Békés-Csanád loess ridge the situation is the same, there is not much left of this vegetation type. These rich Nardus-dominated Mat-grass stands were essential for the pastoral activities, and later the loess soils formed the appropriate basis for the agricultural production of plants. The are still two last remaining patches of loess steppe in the Békés-Csanád loess ridge. One of these important areas is found in the surroundings of Csorvás, where Transylvanian Adonis /Adonis transsylvanica/ is living, the other is located at Pusztaföldvár: the protected steppe or puszta at the Nagytatársánc. Besides the Transylvanian Adonis the other rarest plant species of our country is Drooping Clary /Salvia nutans/, it is found in very low numbers in the surroundings of Kondoros and on the Nagytatársánc. These relict or remnant species are the last survivors of the era following the last glaciation, this era was characterised by a suddenly warming up climate, and these plants were widespread then in the warmer climate in the continental steppes (approximately from 7500 to 5000 years ago). On the loess banks there are several valuable plant species, among them Spring Adonis /Adonis vernalis/, Sternberg's Winter Daffodil /Sternbergia colchiciflora/, Steppe Periwinkle /Vinca herbacea/, Spiked Star-of-Bethlehem /Ornithogalum pyramidale/ and Autumn Squill /Scilla autumnalis/ deserves mentioning. »•V Szeghalom: Phlomis tuberosa, macskahere Kondoros: Salvia nutans, konya zsálya Csorvás: Viola ambigua, csuklyás ibolya
