Molnár Zsolt: A Pitvarosi-puszták és környékük vegetáció- és tájtörténete a középkortól napjainkig

Natura Bekesiensis - 2., Békéscsaba, 98-103., 1996. Landscape and Vegetation History of Pitvarosi-puszták (Steppes in SE-Hungary) from the Middle Ages till the Present Time. Zsolt Molnár, Institute of Ecology and Botany, Vácrátót, Hungary Introduction Local vegetation phenomena are often difficult to understand without their time and space contexts therefore it is useful to know how actual landscapes evolved, what sort of past events affect present vegetation. Landscape historical information can detect long-term processes and thus help understand recent features of vegetation and forecast future changes. This kind of knowledge also helps Nature Conservation Management. Methods Botanical sources: - Historical data: travel diary of Kitaibel (1798, 1810), flora list of Jankó (1886), - Recent data: own floristical and plant sociological surveys (1984-1995). Maps: - Military maps (1784, 1861-66, 1884, 1914, 1943, 1988), Cadaster map (1854), Field maps (1778, 1805, 1860, 1872), Soil map (1935-38). 98
