Molnár Zsolt: A Pitvarosi-puszták és környékük vegetáció- és tájtörténete a középkortól napjainkig
Settlement and land use historical sources: the history of almost all the neighbouring villages and cities have been published. Also the history and economy of the county. Geographical information on Pleistocene and Holocene landscape history. Verbal communication with land owners and inhabitants who served with interesting details about the last 60 years. Results and Conclusions 1. In the Hungarian Great Plain both primary and secondary alkaline steppes exist - the latter developed after the water regulations which took place in the second half of the last century. Bits of information found: - Medieval place-names: there are some which contain the name of the salt (szék). - Land use history: collections of sodium carbonate from soil surface was general till the end of the 19th century. - Maps: alkaline patches shown on a map from 1805. Prior water regulation 19th century cadaster maps also indicate alkaline areas. - Historical botanical sources: alkaline sites and plants were observed before water regulation (Kitaibel, Jankó). - Present botanical information: diverse alkaline flora with rare, specialist species; lack of the two secondary alkaline plant communities. 99
