Szathmáry Lajos Kossuth-gyűjteménye az elmúlt években többször került kiállításra. Az 1998-as sárospataki bemutatkozást követően láthatták az érdeklődők Monokon, Sátoraljaújhelyen, s néhány különleges darabját Cegléden is. Sadako Szathmáry 1999-es magyarországi látogatása alkalmával Budapesten a Hadtörténeti Múzeumban mutattuk be a hazakerült gyűjteményt. Szathmáry Lajos neve felkerült a Magyar Nemzeti Múzeumban elhelyezett, a legjelentősebb adományozókat megörökítő táblára. Lajos Szathmáry's Kossuth collection in the Rákóczi Museum of the Hungarian National Museum Lajos Szathmáry, a Transylvanian-bom collector living in Chicago, was proudest of his Kossuth collection, numbering some two thousand items. A selection of the objects was exhibited in Chicago and New York in 1994. Lajos Szathmáry had studied in Sárospatak and he always remained true to the town. In 1995. he made known his wish that his Kossuth collection should be given to the Rákóczi Museum of the Hungarian National Museum. His wish was fulfilled by his widow when she donated 97 items from the collection to the museum (inv. nos 97.8.1-97). The most valuable pieces of the collection are the books published during Kossuth's tour of the United States, alongside various pictures, hand-written letters and other memorabilia. The perhaps most remarkable piece is the logbook of the Mississippi, the ship on which Kossuth sailed to the United States. The collection was first shown to the public in Sárospatak in 1998, on the 150th anniversary of the 1848 War of Independence. The first exhibition was followed by several others. Edit Tamás 250
