RECONSTRUCTION OF THE BRONZE AGE SETTLEMENT PATTERNS AT GELEJ-PINCEHÁT The field survey of the Gelej-Pincehát site by Erzsébet Patek and Nándor Kalicz in 1961 was followed by an excavation the next year. Four trial trenches were opened to investigate the settlement (Fig. 1). The excavated features and their finds indicated the presence of a Bronze Age settlement extending across the eastern part of the Pincehát Hill. The cemeteries of the Füzesabony and late Piliny culture uncovered earlier at Gelej-Kanális-dűlő and Gelej-Beltelek kertek north of the former Csincse Stream had been used by the communities of this settlement. A settlement of the Hatvan culture was identified on the western and north-western side of the ridge during a field survey conducted in 2008. Pincehely Hill lies in the middle of ridge's northern edge. This area was also occupied during the Early, Middle and Late Bronze Age, although the extent of the various occupations cannot be reconstructed owing to the wine cellars dug into the hill (Fig. 1). 79
