Pirint Andrea: Szelencék „meséi". Petró Sándor szelencegyűjteményének válogatott darabjai
The snuff-boxes presented here all had a personal meaning, which made them especially valuable to their owners: they reflected their beliefs, their political conviction, the major and less important social events of their times, and as gifts, they expressed sentiments felt towards the person they were given to (Figs 5-6), or made a marriage of convenience slightly more bearable by an erotic scene concealed behind a charming lady's portrait (Fig, 7). Many snuff-boxes have interesting stories to tell, not only of the one-time goldsmiths who crafted them, but also of the tragedies of national heroes. It is well worth listening to what they have to say. Andrea Pirint
