The limitationes issued by the counties influenced the work and income of craftsmen active in the villages and markét towns and, indirectly, the development of the crafts listed in the limitationes. The price of craft products sold in towns and at markets, the price of certain services and the wages were determined by the councils of the counties and towns for many centuries. Over fi ve hundred limitationes dating from the period between the 17th and the 19th century can be found in the county archives of County Borsod, in Sátoraljaújhely and in Miskolc. This study focuses on the limitatio concerning wheelwright products issued in 1770 in Miskolc, which was valid in County Borsod. The population of Miskolc, including the craftsmen, quintupled during this period and the town rose to become one of the most important markét centres of Hungary. The price regulation, whose date of issue coincides with the date of the most detailed register of craftsmen active in the 18th century, is one of the most important sources concerning the history of craft industry in Miskolc during the 18th century.
