United States and pieces from sculptor János Andrássy Kurta. Picture galleries in Miskolc and Sárospatak also fulfill regional tasks. The scientific collection of the museum was dissolved in the 60s and collecting work started again in the 70s. First the private collections were bought up (István Vásárhelyi, Ferenc Fóris, Tibor Wirth, etc.). Since 1979 two museologists have been involved in the enlargement of the collection. In their work they rely on social help, and also take part in the excavation of Bükk National Park and the Protected Regions of Aggtelek and Zemplén. The museum's permanenet scientific exhibition got ready in 1981 with the title "Three Countries of Nature". János Hajdú Ráfis' agricultural machine collection in Mezőkövesd started as a private collection that was taken over by the museum in 1979. Zemplén Museum in Szerencs with its picture postcard collection amounting to 700 thousand pieces has international reputation. This is one of the first collections among the big collections in the world. Here, the ex libris collection with more than 30 thousand pieces is also remarkable. A permanent exhibition of both is going to be arranged in the castle of Szerencs in 1986 when it is expected to open and where the Zemplén Museum will move back. Tokaj Museum obtained local Catholic priest Béla Béres' valuable collection that consisted of among others 150 orthodox icons and other collection units. These also will be presented on the new permanent exhibition in the new museum building in 1984. In addition to the castle of Szerencs and the tradehouse in Tokaj, BorsodAbaúj-Zemplén County Museum organization obtained several other establishments. Bodrogköz castle Museum is expected to open in the late renaissance so-called Mágocsi castle. Herman Ottó Museum is the first social scientific research base. Archeologic, architectural, economy historical, fine art historical, education historical, ethnographical and literature historical research and publication is done only in this Museum. Researchers are involved in not only the regional research but in the national research, too. They also work in several professional and and work committees of the Miskolc Committee of the Hungarian Acadamy of Sciences. Regular connections are maintained with several universities, academic institutions of the country and also with many museums and university faculties of the neighbouring countries. A separate column of Szlovákiai Téka in the series „Közlemények" informs the Hungarian specialists about the ethnographical and local historical literature in Szlovákia.
