Embroideries
stitches often appearing mixed with satin stitches. Peculiar forms of furrier- or hair-embroideries also occur. On various kinds of the felt mantle of shepherds (called szűr) felt appliqué also appears. Among the types of laceworks stitched and filet laces, crotchets and knittings are the most frequent. Baranya is unique in the sense that beyond the styles known elsewhere in the country, among the elements of embroidery, their composition, colouring and technical methods there are a number of peculiar kinds characteristic only in this part of the country. The most beautiful embroideries can be seen on headdresses from the Drávaszög and the Sárköz region, on those of the Croatians' in the Dráva region, and on Reformed Hungarian kerchiefs from the the Ormánság. Embroideries can be differentiated by their material and their makers - crewel-works are usually stitched on flax, hemp, Sokac from Mohács in winter wear. N.d., photo by E. Kankowsky.
