Folkweaves

Woollen folkweaves, part of the exhibition not using extra heddles. Differently from the other ethnicities, they weave on the back of the material, that is, they pick the negative of the pattern with their fingers, since with negative weaving much less threads are to be lifted on the very close, complicated pattern. Croatians in the Dráva region liked motifs from nature, vineleaves, grapes, tendrils, stars, birds. Woollen weaves can be found at Croatians (Sokac, Bosnians) and Serbs, and Székelys from Bukovina as well as Csángós from Moldva having settled in Hungary after World War II. In some German villages weavers made baby-carriers from coloured wool. 39
