Certain round pendants sewn on shamans' coats are imbued with similar symbolic associations. Disc-shaped pieces with centralized holes played the role of a mirror, which shone light in the darkness of the underworld for the shaman (Gorbacheva and Solov'eva 2006,124), while iron discs with a large hole (worn usually on the back of the coat) symbolized an opening through which the shaman entered the underworld (a phenomenon confirmed particularly in Evenki and Sakha (Yakut) shamanism - Figs 18, 19)
