The MTI formed its service according to its possible technical development. It has had text database since 1987, photo digitization since 1995 and more and more on-line services, which are accessible for the media and other clients. It has developed news group and news letters to fulfil the demands of business people and organizations. It has published with expanding contents the Manual of the Hungarian Public Life on-line. The MTI has operated as a share company since 15 th July 1997 It works according to a double requirement-system. On one side its basic task is determined by the news agency act that exactly lists public tasks of the national news agency and on the other side it has to work under market conditions, it has to support parallel to the demands of the market. The Hungarian News Service is a national news service of the 21 st century that builds on the good traditions of more than 120 years. It performs the tasks of news, information, photo, database and multimedia service both from public service and market orientated point of view. It is reliable, quick and balanced. It uses modern technology and continuously keeps the demands of its clients in view. Its employees not only watch the vast information, data, photo material accumulated in MTI but they make them accessible widely on the Internet. ARCHIVES, DATABASE AND SERVICES Microfilm archives A very significant separate-collection of the MTI Special Library is that includes the news of MTI from 1944 to 1988, (MTI changed to computer writing up in 1988 so the followings can be found in the news database of Press Bank) also includes the 'Secret', 'Top Secret' publications from 1949, thematic collections formed upon different views from the 1960s and the basic publications of MTI since their first appearance. The unique national and historical values are looked after on 16 and 32 mm microfilm rolls and so-called jackets and they include about 12 million pages information. The Special Library can be visited by public at the opening time. News Database It includes the daily news broadcast by MTI, the most important facts of inner and outer life, news about international events, economic, sport, cultural life.
