THE ARCHIVES OF THE ROMANIAN ORTHODOX CHURCH Not appropriate storage after 1918 and the lack of financial support led to a continuous devastation of the church relics. Because of the bad condition of the documents, ritual books and sacral objects in Romanian orthodox churches the collection of these things started in 1989 since these are the most important sources that relate to the history of Romanian people, cultural history in Hungary. The leaders of the church, priests and congregation agree that saving these values is necessary. After the decision the collection of the church wealth from the Romanian orthodox parishes to the then called Romanian Orthodox Vicarity today Bishopric in Gyula started where there can be appropriate storage. In two years time rich and valuable museum material got into the archives from the Romanian orthodox churches and parishes in Hungary. The sacral objects and registers still used remained at the parishes. The objects and documents stored in the building of Romanian Orthodox Bishopric in Hungary mean the Collection of Romanian Orthodox Church in Hungary. The archives of the parishes also include a rich material of educational history beside the ecclesiastical documents. Among the documents of the church there can be found registers, records, ecclesiastical and educational documents, statements, economic documents, circular letters, day books, inventory books, registers relating to religious life and mixed documents can be found in great quantity from mainly after 70s. The early documents include data and texts in Romanian language written with Cyrillic letters. Beside sacral objects documents from the parishes also belong to the collection.
