RITA B ERNÁD THE COLLECTIVE ARCHIVES OF THE ROMAN CATHOLIC ARCHDIOCESE OF ALBA IULIA The Transylvanian Bishopry, today the Archbishopry of Alba Iulia, and its large territorial extent, justified the collecting of the archdeaconry and parish archives. In the Carpathian Basin, between 2003 and 2016, nine collective archives were established in eight cities: Gyulafehérvár, Szamosújvár, Sepsiszentgyörgy, Târgu Mureş, Gyergyószentmiklós, Székelyudvarhely, Szamosújvár (Armenian), Cluj-Napoca, and Csíkszereda. In the first part of our study, we discuss the initiation and eligibility of collecting with reference to the practices of neighboring church archives, we outline the administrative structure of the Archdiocese of Alba Iulia, furthermore we discuss the conservation and restoration interventions, and then we present these nine collective archives in chronological order of their establishment.
