Habsburgok és Magyarország a kiegyezést követően egyéb iratok közgyűjteménybe kerülését. A hagyatéknak a Habsburg-fiúkra vonatkozó része tipikus példája a dolgozat elején említett, egy-egy irathagyatékban megbúvó „lappangó értéknek”. Az iratok feldolgozása előtt egyáltalán nem merült fel, hogy a főhercegi család életére vonatkozó források találhatóak Veszprémben. Feltárásuk annál is jelentősebb tény, mivel József Ágost főherceg és családja magánéletéről - az ország történetében betöltött jelentős szerepe ellenére - meglehetősen kevés forrással rendelkezünk. A téma kutatóinak így mindenképpen fontos lehet a Kratochvil-hagyaték megismerése, amely nem csak a Habsburgok iránt érdeklődő, hanem a neveléstörténettel foglalkozó kutatók számára is fontos információkkal szolgálhat. Szabolcs Nagy “I and you shall pay attention to make the very best of hardships...” Contributions to the history of education of Habsburg descendants in Hungary Studying the 20th century elite childrens education is considered as a special field in the history of education. The extreme social inequality between students and teachers, or the educated and the educator, made the traditional social hierarchies relative and confused the accustomed interactions between the two parties. The middle-class born Captain Károly Kratochvil was the educator of the sons of Archduke Joseph August, from the House of Habsburg-Lorraine, in 1909. Part of his written heritage refers to his more than five years long service with the two Habsburg boys. The author will demonstrate this unusual situation based on examples from these documents. The study presents the difficulties caused their presence in the educational system, and the special “stepfather-like” role of their educator. Last but not least, the author provides contributions to the family history of the Hungarian line of the Habsburg family. 114
