IV. Károly király emléke

IV. Károly király halála 34-ik évfordulóján a szabad Amerika földjén számos katolikus templomban tartottak emlék-szentmisét. Református templomokban az egyházi szertartás keretében áldoztak dicső emlékének.

A béke királya és szociális király akart lenni, de a győztes Nagy Entente rövidlátó parancsa nem hagyott időt számára, hogy olyan boldoggá tehesse népét, mint szive mélyén óhajtotta. Azóta a Nyugat legkimagaslóbb politikusai ismételten is belátták, mily hiba volt a Habsburg-dinasztia eltávolitása, az európai egyensúly fenntartása szempontjából elengedhetetlenül szükséges Monarchia szétdarabolása, balkanizálása és mennyire egészen másként alakult volna a ma végveszély szélére jutott Európa sorsa, ha nem a bosszú vágya vezérli őket az ártatlan uralkodóval s az ártatlan Magyarországgal szemben. . . .

Minden magyar büszke lehet Károly király emlékére és biztosak vagyunk, hogy a rabhazában, a szenvedések és megpróbáltatások mai kálváriás napjaiban is sokan gondolnak az Ö nemes lelkületére, népbarát szándékaira és remélik, szivük mélyén kívánják, hogy ha üt a felszabadulás órája az Ő meg nem valósult szándékainak örököse, Ottó trónörökös, aki szándékainak is ihletett utóda, hozza el a magyar nép számára a békés fejlődés, a keresztény princípiumok szerinti, szociális állam, a haladás és virágzás uj korszakát, hogy annyi balsors, csalódás és szenvedés után szabadságban, jólétben, boldogságban élhessen a magyar és csillaga ismét fényre derüljön. . . .

Adja Isten mielőbb, hogy Ottó trónörökös megvalositnassa mindazt a jót és szépet, amit mártír atyja uralkodásának céljaként

áhitott!

AN OPEN LETTER

TO THE INTERNATIONAL RED CROSS C07 VIITTEE, GENEVA, SWITZERLAND

AND TO THE LEAGUE OF RED CROSS SC IETIES, PARIS, FRANCE.

Gentlemen:

The paramount mission of the Red Cross is to give aid to people and to relieve distress due to great calamities. In view of the situation in present day Hungary I appeal to the League of Red Cross Societies and to the International Red Cross Committee for urgent help. There is no political bias connected with this appeal, merely and solely it is an appeal prompted by humanitarian impulses.

1. Soldiers of the small nations, still prisoners of war in Russia, should be repatriated. Through the Red Cross of Soviet Russia, a member of the League, a movement should be initiated in behalf of thousands and thousands of Hungarian war prisoners and deported civilians that they be released and be returned to their homeland. But at the same time they should be given the right to choose the place to which they want to go.

2. Outside of Hungary there are many political refugees, whose families remained in Hungary, because they were unable to flee. A request is to be made to the Government of Hungary thaf these people be given passports to leave the country without molestation, in order to join their relatives abroad.

3. Pensions to elderly people, formerly employees of the Government and private concerns, were stopped, in spite of the fact that during the term of their service, contribution to the pension fund was deducted from their salaries each month. Because of the stoppage of their pensions, thousands of these aged and sick are in desperate position. Many of them committed suicide. Them pensions should be reinstated.

4. Because of the generally adverse economic condition in Hungary, relatives, friends and relief agencies abroad are extending help to the people of Hungary by way of sending used clothing to these distressed families. However, the Government of Hungary put$ a tax or duty on these parcels, the amount of which is so exorbitant, that it is unbearable either by the sender or by the recipient. Taxes
