I emphasized that the explanation for the demonstration must be sought in the patriotic feeling of the population and in the fear that their economic existence is threatened with destruction. I informed the Austrians that the authorities were instructed to prevent in the future patriotic manifestations directed against the Austrian delegates personally or against the Austrian people with whom my Government desires to maintain the friendliest relations.
