A magyar-nyugatnémet kapcsolatok dinamikus időszaka Résumé A Dynamic Period of Hungarian-West German Relations: From Taking up Diplomatic Relations to the Opening of the Border, 1973-1989 The authors present a resource-based study about the relations between Hungary and the Federal Republic of Germany from 1973 to 1989. In 1973, ten years after the institutionalisation of official economic relation, Budapest and Bonn normalised diplomatic relations. The consequence was a boom in the bilateral political and economic contacts, even during the period of the "Second Cold War" since 1979-80. The cultural relations, which were ideologically and with view on the "German question" delicate, showed an intensive development only since mid of the 1980s. The real turn in the political relations between both countries happened - as our research shows - in 1986-87, before the transformation of the political system in Hungary.
