Résumé The „Arab Spring" The term "Arab Spring" is problematic, not only because it is used to denote a wide range of events different in scope and substance, but also as a metaphor, since as such, it has no place in academic studies. The term "Arab Spring", therefore, reflects much more our own European historical and social complexes than the analysis of the processes undergoing in the Arab world. The people in the Arab world do not look at themselves through the lenses of the Europeans' glasses and therefore do not analyse the developments according to the European political theories, but by the terminology of their own political culture. According to the Arab political traditions no one has the right to revolt against a political leader, who ensures the keeping of the laws of Islam in everyday life. On the other hand, there is no bigger threat for the political community than anarchy and chaos. This ex lex state must be avoided by all means, even if there is an obviously unjust and corrupt leader at the head. The European expectations that the Arab world would undergo a democratic development is naive, since the mass revolts can have one, and only one direction: the restoration of Islam. In the eyes of the Arab public the root of the problems is corruption (fasäd) and not the lack of freedom. 20 Külügyi Szemle
