Résumé

All these factors have been magnified and the self-positioning exercise for the EU has been influenced to a great extent by the unprecedented crises of 2010. This is a systemic crisis since its consequences reach far beyond the financial sector, with the whole existence of integration at stake. On the other hand this crisis can be seen as an opportunity for the EU to reform itself in a way which is impossible in normal times. Once the euro is saved, the question "What are Europe's chances of securing its achievements of peace, stability, prosperity, and a relatively important geopolitical status in the longer term?" will be asked again, and the answer can involve the development of a two- speed Europe organized around an avant-garde core with deeper level of economic and political integration.
