Résumé Résumé Cooperation between the United Nations and the European Union in the light of the Treaty of Lisbon The Treaty of Lisbon entered into force on 1 December 2009. It provides the EU with modern institutions and optimised working methods to efficiently tackle contemporary challenges in the contemporary world. Several paragraphs of the Treaty refer to the cooperation with the United Nations. Among others Article 188P. para. 1. states: "The Union shall establish all appropriate forms of cooperation with the organs of the United Nations and its specialised agencies..." According to Article 10A. para. 1. "The Union's action on the international scene shall be guided by... the respect for the principles of the United Nations Charter and international law... It shall promote multilateral solutions to common problems, in particular in the framework of the United Nations." The study seeks to capture the outcome of the partnership between the United Nations and the European Union at the end of the first decade of the 21st century. It highlights the fields of political, development and humanitarian cooperation, peacekeeping operations, the assistance to developing countries in the areas of governance and elections, strengthening democracy, crisis management etc. Some significant results of the collaboration between the two organizations are not covered by this text. These are beyond the scope of this paper and include agricultural development, trade and market access, education, child protection etc. The paper also points out the differences and in some cases the contradicting interests of the UN and the EU but concludes that cooperation between them is likely to evolve further in the future. 154 Külügyi Szemle
