Résumé The crisis management operations of the UN and the EU in the Democratic Republic of Congo The first independent military action of the European Union was the Operation ARTEMIS, which was conducted in the Democratic Republic of the Congo in 2003. The European Union decided to launch the operation, which concentrated on the Ituri/Bunia region in accordance with Resolution 1484 of the UN Security Council and with the joint Action Plan adopted on 5 July 2003.
