/. Hello From.... issue#7 Winter 1999/Spring 2000 The Sándor Collection We Would Like You to Meet: Ion Albu Ion Albu is a superb storyteller who feels deeply about the importance of keeping local customs. His mask and doll mak ing craft is closely tied to the traditions of mummers, masked carolers who roam through villages at year's end. As leader of a fifty-member village performance group specializing in traditional village songs and dances, he participates in local outings. Goats, bears, horses, stags, dancers, and musicians are all represented in Mr. Albu's colorful troupe. In his tiny workshop, Mr. Albu makes his dolls in that same tradition. He crafts each one with care to recreate the spirit of the Mummers and their nights of wild celebration. The Sándor Collection is proud to number him among the many talented artists who contribute their works to our line of fine handicrafts. 7.S.6. Come see us at this season’s gift markets!!! Atlanta International Gift and Home Furnishings Mart America’s Mart, Museum Section, booth#2N 4227 Jan. 8th-12th, 2000 New York International Gift Fair Jacob Javíts Convention Center, booth#5220-5222 Jan. 23rd'27th, 2000 Recently several of our customers have expressed their bewilderment at the fact that while most of our decorated eggs come with attached hangers, some don’t. We would like to take this opportunity to clarify this problem. The eggs that we carry from Hungarian sources have hangers to comply with the regional tradition. The eggs we receive from Romanian sources also comply with the local tradition. In Romania, however, the tradition is to exclude the hanger, as it is felt that such accessories detract from the beauty of the egg. This is simply a difference in artistic expression between the two regions, and there is nothing that we at The Sándor Collection can do, or would like to do as we believe as strongly as the artisans in keeping those traditions intact. Some of our other customers have used the hanger-less eggs in baskets, on stands or nestled in cotton or similar material. If you have a new, creative idea for the display of the Romanian eggs, please pass it on to us, we’d love to trade thoughts. If you have any questions or comments about us, or our products, don’t hesitate to send them in. Who knows, maybe you’ll be the next one to pass it on....
