forts to establish the Hungarian American Coalition, an umbrella organization for the more effective coordination of Hungarian American concerns in Washington, D.C., particularly as these relate to human rights struggles in East Central Europe. Finally, this led to the discussion of a concrete plan to influence Congressional leaders during the second week of September, 1991, when Romania will again attempt to acquire Most-Favored-Nation (MFN) status in the USA. The group gave serious consideration to the organization of state delegation visits to Washington at that time. The Bannockburn workshop also had two innovations to its credit. One was the party made possible by Rozal and Marton Sass. They turned over their architects’ office to the workshop on Saturday evening so that the participants would have the opportunity to get to know one-another socially. It was also an opportunity for political interaction with leaders from both the Hungarian-American community of Chicago and some elected political leaders of the city. Two highlights of the evening were: 1) the videotape presentation and eyewitness account of Boros Zoltán from Bucharest, Romania, regarding minority rights in the post-Ceausescu era; and 2) the bus sightseeing tour of Chicago organized by the younger Marci Sass for all who could fit into the vehicle owned by the Hunyadi Scout troop of Chicago. The other innovation was the conclusion to the workshop on Monday afternoon: a visit to the Chicago headquarters of the Polish American Alliance. The participants who visited with the Polish organizers were able to get a glimpse of what makes the Polish American Alliance so influential. The inner workings of the organization and its winning psychology were described. Those who were there witnessed that we still have a long way to go. However, they have also become convinced that in the future we should maintain much closer contact with the credible organizations of other ethnic groups with East Central European interests. “Chicago, Chicago... what a wonderful town.” It was good to visit, to learn, and to meet young and old who belong to that very important minority — the “attentive public” of human rights activists in the Hungarian American subculture. Where do we meet next summer? — Andrew Ludanyi A csillagsávos zászló (Az Egyesült Államok himnusza) Ha a hajnal köszönt, Mondd, hogy látod-e még, Melyre oly büszkeség Feltekinteni este: Melynek dús sávjain Ott a csillagos ég S ezreket buzdított Száz legendás hőstettre: Sok-sok véres csatán, Bombatűz záporán, Megtépték, talán, Le nem lankadt soha... Mert a csillagsávos zászló, míg Fenn lobog nincs mit félned, A szabadság földje ez És a bátrak hona! Soporoni Bálint fordítása 8 ITT-OTT 25. évi. (1992), 1. (119.) szám
