Ha az ember meggondolja» hogy mindez nem Romániában hanem Magyarországon történt» akkor temperamentuma szerint felforr vagy meghűl benne a vér. Ügy érzem» ebben az ügyben nekünk ITT kötelességünk állást foglalni» mert OTT egyre messzebb rugaszkodnak a jőérzéstől és emberi tisztességtől. Bár fejléces levélpapíron lehetett az eredeti, a másolásnál a fejléc elmaradt, s csak egy marylandi telefonszám olvasható rajta. Az ilyen hivatalos-hangú, de amatőr "release"-eket nem szoktam figyelembe venni még akkor sem, ha tudom, honnan erednek. De most még azt sem lehet megállapítani — a számot csak nem hívom fel emiatt. Most azonban olyasmiről van szó, amire mégiscsak oda kell figyelni: "Police actions against opposition groups in Hungary, March 11-15, 1986", mondja az alcím. Valami átszűrődött ebből már hozzánk, igaz, de részletek még nem. Lássuk csak: 1. Cafe raided. On Tuesday» March 11» the police raided the Malomto Cukrászda in Budapest ... where several persons connected to the opposition were meeting. The police wrote down the names of those present» but let them go. One of the participants» who iives in Szeged ... and usually takes samizdat material there for distribution» postponed his return because of the raid. when he did go back on March 13» the police were waiting for him at the Szeged train station. He was interrogated and released. 2. Pool raided again. On March 14» the police again raided the Komjadi swimming pool and spa» the scene of a raid several weeks ago involving dissidents György Gado and Jenő Nagy. On that occasion» Nagy had been fined by the police the equivalent of an average month's income for distributing samizdat material. This time the police searched four persons. In addition to Jenő Nagy» they included Zsigmond Varos» a photographer for the officially sanctioned periodical MOZGO VILÁG» a number of whose editors have been replaced over the past few years for clashing with cultural officials. The police did not find anything to confiscate at the pool. However» that evening they searched Voros's apartment and confiscated old and current samizdat material» as well as some photographs. 3. Police break up large March 15 demonstrations. On March 15 ... police broke up unauthorized celebrations by several thousand people. ... After the official celebration at the National Museum in Pest» which was attended by about 15»000 people» several thousand people walked to the statue of... Petőfi... to conduct an unauthorized ceremony consisting of patriotic songs and poetry. The police arrested one ... Lajos Jakab» who arrived late and was trying to join the crowd. Jakab had recently been fined 10»0D0 forints ... for having in his possession some samizdat material. The crowd» still numbering several thousand» left the Petőfi statue and started walking along Akadémia Street (the route followed by demonstrators in 1756). A young woman» Olga Diószegi» went through the crowd collecting money to pay the fine police had imposed on Jenő Nagy ... She was arrested by the State Security Investigative 33
