literature and sociology will be oresented mostly in regional units, each placed in its resoective historical perspective. These varied facets of culture should enable the student to evaluate this complex and fascinating heritage and to appreciate the eternal human values and lessons of Hungarian history. Emphasis will be placed on the folk-art inspiration in modern art and music, a field where the specific humanistic values of the Hungarian soul are becoming more and more evident, as for example in the folk-inspired music of Bela Bartók and Zoltán Kodály.

The contemporary Australian relevance of the course will be enhanced by visits to Hungarian cultural arrangements in Sydney, such as exhibitions, folk-dances and art festivals. It is also hoped that cultural films will become available for the class. Active participation by the students will also be encouraged, depending on their interests (crafts, singing, dancing, discussions, etc.). If the response warrants it, guest experts will be invited to assist in the various fields.

The aim of the course is to promote the understanding of the traditional and complex culture of this lonely, talented people in a modern presentation with emohasis on its topical relevance to the now evolving cultural spectrum of Australia. It is therefore offered to the non-Hungarian Australian as well as to those Australians of Hungarian descent who wish to study their own heritage with the unemotional, objective interest of the Australians of the future.

Az 1970-es Anyanyelvi Konferencia egyik javaslatának megfelelően három tankönyviró-tankönyvszerkesztő látogatott el Amerikába és Kanadába, hogy itt magyar iskolák, egyházak és ifjúsági szervezetek tanítóinak, szervezőinek, szülőknek, tanulóknak a tapasztalatait meghallgassák, tanítási-tanulási körülményeit megismerjék, szaktanácsait,véleményét, észrevételeit kikérjék a készülő külföldi magyar tananyagok közös összeállitási, megirási, szerkesztési munkálataihoz. Hazautazásuk előtt az alábbi levelet Írták az érdekelteknek:

Nagyon rövid volt látogatásunk ideje és igy nem juthattunk el minden magyar iskolához. Éreztük néha a tartózkodást is amely ittott még elválaszt magyart a magyartól.
