CHURCHMEN REGARDED BY THE RESIDENTIAL COUNCIL OF TEE PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC The Presidential Council of the Hungarian People's Republic conferred - among other ecclesiastical personages - the honours of the Elag-Crder on several Protestant prominent churchmen for their loyalty demonstrated during the Counter- Revolution, for their activity in the peace movement in beiialf of the people as well as for their work in building up good relation between the State and the Church. D, Albert Bereczky, Reformed Bishcp and D.Dr. Lajos Vető, Lutheran Bishop were re­warded with the second grade of the Flag-Order. Rev, Dr. Tiber Bartha, and Dr, László Márton Pákozdv, Reformed Theological Professor, ard László Szabó, President of the Baptist Churoh receivd. the third grade, ( Reformed Seniors Pét er Hajdú, István SzamoskSzi, Pál Nyáry, and the Lutheran Senior Adam I.[cicis were rewarded with the fourth grade meanwhile Rev, Kálmán Huszti, Leader of "the Department at the General Convent, tlie Secretary of tii£i Ref ormod/Peace Movement was honoured with the fifth grade of the Order, / Ecclesiastical István Dobi, President of the Presidential Council of the People's Republic, handed over the decorations in the Building of the Parliament on December 50th, There were present :the Chinese Church Delegation visiting Hungary under Bishop Ting's gui&anoe, István Kristóf, Secretary of the Presidential Council, János Péter, Member of the Presidential Council, President of the Institution for Cultural Relations, Jlmö Mihályii, Member of the Presidential Council, Deputy Minister of the Ministry for Culture, General Inspector of the Lutheran Church, János Horváth, President of the State Office for Religious Affairs, János Hantos, and Jakab Herling, Secretaries of the Hungarian 1-ea.ce-Council, as well as quite a number of the leaders of the Protestant Churches.
