MACKAY'S VISIT TO HUNGARY­Prof, Dr, J, An Maomay, Principal of the Princeton Theological Seminary, the President of the Reformed World Federation and the International Missionary Council spent some days in Hungary in the middle of December as a guest of the Re­formed Church. Profé Mackay called on Bishop Bereczky, had talks both with the Presidium of 'die General Convent and the Pres ident ial Council of it, he payed a visit at János Horváth; s office, the President of the State Office for Religious Affairs, and delivered a most impressive lecture entitled: "The -i magre of servant" to the theologians, pastors and students in the Budapest Reformed Theological Acad­emy, THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF TUB TRANSTISCIAN CHURCH DISTRICT - János Péter resigned -The annual meeting of the Transtiscian Church District was held in the hall of the Debrecen College on December 19th-20th with Senior István Gail, Deputy Bishop and Mr. Ferenc Erdei, Lay Curator General in the chair, János Horváth, Pres­ident of the State Office for Religious Affairs of the Ministry for Culture partook on the meeting and rose to speak; as well as Bishop Dr. H.H, Ting, who was present with, tho members of the Chinese Church Delegation visiting Hungary. Further, there wore present the delegates of the sister church districts, headed by Lajos Darányi, Bishop of tho Cistiscian Church District together with his oo-president Dr. István Dienes, Lay Curator General, and several representatives of the state and social organs,- Since the last general assembly - said in his opening address Mr.Erdei, Lay Curator General - great events of the history were storming through our country and in it through the life of the Reformed Church either. As a result of one year, full of struggles, we have surpassed the critical period and entered the era of building up. Our cares are not few and insignificant. Lot of things have changed around us and we have to change heaps of things in us and in our conditions of life. A good deal of things have to be restored which had been spoiled or destroyed.- We need sound judgment to solve properly the difficult questions pres­enting us, and more clear valuing of our and our companions' activity. Even then when it is painful a shooting pain is necessary to reach a clear and favourable result* Then he pointed out that the fate of the mankind and the peoples of the world claims for the zealous fostering and humble serving of the cause of peace, I give expression - ended his address the Curator General - to the hope that we shall be able to talk with wisdom and responsibility in conformity with the impor­tance of the times0 1 sírván Gail, Deputy Bishop emphatically declared in his report that the Holy Ghost had commenacd the renewing activity in the Reformed Church in spring of 1956 already. Under tho guidance of Bishop János Péter this service promising lots of good had also begun in this church district. One could express one's thoughts and tell constructive criticism in order to form a more real life for the Churoh in the spiritual and materiel aspects* On October 23rd 195S the well-commenced good had been succeeded by the Counter-Revolution presenting itself even in the church in the same time of the Counter-Revolution and together with it.
