20 Hirünk a Világban O ur Reputation in the World English Summary Joseph Dómján, outstanding Hungarian artist in colored woodcuts, lives and works in the U.S. for two years. During this time he achieved considerable successes. His works were exhibited in twenty-five great cities. Many important museums all over the world bought his pictures, e.g. the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Cincinnati Art Museum, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the National Museum in Stockolm, the Albertina in Vienna, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the Sao Paulo Museum of Art, etc. His first book based on an American theme was published only recently. It is a book about Henry Hudson, illustrated with woodcuts and printed by hand. The successes of Joseph Dómján are analyzed by György Szabó (New York), who also quotes the appreciation of Dómján by Norman Kent, published in American Artist, Oct. 1959. Lajos Kutasi Kovács (Sao Paulo), in his article, « The art of our age - did it overcome the crisis? », compares Domján’s significance in painting with that of Bartók in music. The story, how Philharmonia Hungarica was Joseph Dómján, l’artiste xylographe hongrois s’est établi il y deux ans aux Etats Unis d’Amérique. Depuis, il a remporté d’importants succès. Il a déjà organisé 25 expositions individuelles dans différentes grandes villes du pays. Partout dans le monde des musées de premier ordre ont acheté de ses oeuvres. Ainsi le Metropolitan Museum of Art, le Cincinnati Art Museum, le Philadelphia Museum of Art, le Musée National de Stockholm, l’Albertina de Vienne, le Sao Paulo Museum of Art, le Victoria and Albert Museum de Londres, etc. Son premier livre, imprimé à la main et illustré de ses gravures sur bois, traitant du grand explorateur Henry Hudson, vient de paraître en Amérique. György Szabó (de New York) traite des succès de Dómján, et nous fait connaître, en même temps, l’étude parue de la plume de Norman Kent, dans la revue « American Artist », au sujet de cet artiste. The column « Western Observer » informs us about: the naming of a street in Vienna after the famous Hungarian playwright, Ferenc Molnár; Vittorio de Sica’s plan to produce a film on the Hungarian Revolution; the participation of the delegations of the more than three million Hungarian Calvinists, coming from Hungary, Rumania, Slovakia and Yugoslavia, at the Calvin anniversary celebrations in Geneva : the Brasilian « Oscar » given this year to a Hungarian movie man, Rudolf Icsey; the tenth anniversary of the Free University « Könyves Kálmán » in Sao Paulo; the Mergenthaler Prize given this year to the internationally known Hungarian cartoonist, Péter Aldor, who lives in Colombia. The supplement « Bibliográfia » starts to publish the bibliography of Professor László Pálinkás (Firenze), listing the books written in Hungarian abroad since 1945. à celle prise par Bartok dans la musique.
