Teszárné Nagy Abstract: Recently an extreme water regime could have been observed in the Middle-Tisza district, with the alternation of long lasting low water periods and extreme floods. These extreme hydrological and meteorological conditions had significant impact on the eutrophication processes taking place in the reservoir, which can be easily tracked through the spreading of macrovegetation. In the period between 2009 and 2012 we have investigated four times the qualitative and quantitative composition of larval chironomid assemblages in the macrovegetation of four basins of the Kisköre-reservoir. The investigation results show that the extreme hydrological conditions induced by the flood occurred in 2010, had a significant effect on species composition and assemblage structure of chironomid larvae attaching to the macrovegetation. The most visible effect of the prolonged high water level was that the formerly vegetation-covered water spaces became mainly vegetation free. At the same time we observed a slight increase of diversity, as well as a significant decrease of the density of the larval chironomid assemblages living in macrovegetation. In 2011 and in 2012 due to the permanently low-water level of River Tisza, the return of marsh and tangle vegetation has accelerated in the reservoir basins, at the same time the abundance of chironomid taxa has significantly increased Keywords: Kisköre Reservoir, Chironomid larvae, macrovegetation.
