Debrecen, Hungary Abstract: The comprehensive evaluation and utilization in ecological water qualification of hydrological, physical, chemical and biological data about the Hungárián flowing waters provided by the Inspectorates for environment and water directorates happened only in a few cases. In our work we give an account of the working up of 11 years long (1994-2004) datasets about 10 variables, which come from 17 sampling sites (River Tisza: 4 sites, main tributaries: 13 sites) of the watercourse system of Tisza (altogether 1870 data). During our analysing and evaluating work we were searching the answer to the question that how much these datasets overlap the categories of ecological water qualification. The category system of ecological water qualification primarily was developed for standing waters, and the application was demonstrated using the results of the investigation series carried out on the backwater Boroszló-kerti-Holt-Tisza in 1997 involving the whole vegetation period. We classified our datasets into 9 categories according to the code lists of the ecological water qualification system and we performed the analysis and the evaluation both with the yearly mean values and with the 11 year mean values of the variables. Based on the distribution of the code numbers of the individual variables by categories the similarities and differences between the flowing waters and sampling sites can be revealed well and according to our result it can be unequivocally stated that the ecological water qualification system can be applied both in the case of standing waters and flowing waters too.
