Abstract: One of the important suppliers of Lónyay main channel emptying in the Tisza is Érpataki main branch that flows through Nyíregyháza as well. I do measurements on this small watercourse and on the main channel, and I study the effect of the watercourses in Nyíregyháza on the receiving water, in order to get a comprehensive picture about the load that the significant city of the area means for the water quality of the main branch and thereby for the quality of the main channel as well. In April 2006 during a previous field-work I designated the sampling places. Since May I have taken pumped samples in every second week. I use a Multi 350i portable measuring instrument for the local measurements (temperature of the water, pH, conductivity, dissolved oxygen, etc.). I do the processing of the samples in the accredited laboratory of Nyírségvíz ZRt., I analyse the parameters of trophity, saprobity, constructivity, destructivity (forms of nitrogen, forms of phosphorus, chemical oxygen demand, chlorophyll-a, biological oxygen demand). It is apparent from the results of the measurements that Nyíregyháza means significant load for Érpataki main branch, and this load has an effect on Lónyay main channel as well.
